About Vivian Johnson

Vivian Johnson started teaching at Hamline in 1996. She was professor in the Advanced Degree and Administrative License program and served as the Associate Dean for the School of Education. She co-founded the EdD program along with Walter Enloe, Carol Mayer, and Barbara Swanson. Prior to Hamline her previous roles in higher education included Science Coordinator, Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN; Assistant Professor, Montana State University in Bozeman, MT; and Planning Coordinator Minnesota Educational Computer Corporation (MECC)/University of Minnesota Center for the Study of Educational Technology in St. Paul, MN. Before entering higher education Johnson used an alternative route to become a high school physics/computer science teacher. Johnson received her BA from the University of Colorado, her MAT from Monmouth University, and an MS and PhD from the University of Oregon. Her teaching philosophy is grounded in the power of transformation learning and creating inclusive learning environments, especially for traditionally marginalized populations in STEM. Johnson is noted for her leadership in the areas of educational technology, educational equity, and digital sexism.
