Chapter 2, reflecting the shared perspectives of four early-career researchers (ECRs), examines the forces affecting doctoral education. Given that the future of doctoral education will be in the hands of those ECRs who choose to remain in academia, the chapter stresses the importance of understanding the forces of change in terms of how they effect doctoral students and junior faculty
