Professional Searchers Today: Leadership Roles in Design and Information Experience
Library 2.015 Worldwide Virtual Conference (2015)
  • Virginia M. Tucker, San Jose State University
Abstract
Professional searchers engage with information at a profound level and in a wide range of settings: as reference librarians, information architects, information brokers, and faculty who teach search. In formal and informal ways, informational professionals with in-depth knowledge of search engines, database content and structures, and the information landscape are impacting both the design of information retrieval systems and the search experiences of users. Highly experienced and adept search professionals have become integral to improvements in the information environment and in facilitating the information experience. This talk will discuss the construct of information experience for professional searchers, drawing on recent study findings (Tucker, 2015) and exploring how LIS professionals are taking on new roles in information retrieval system design and in how users experience search.
