Abstract
French hagiographic mystery plays of the late-medieval period have been generically characterized as works that narrated visually the life or martyrdom of a significant saintly personage in locally-sponsored productions. Or, in Alan Knight's insightful re-reading of the generic definitions of late-medieval drama, historically-focused plays, including saints' plays, drew upon the religious culture that permeated the everyday lives of medieval populations in order to commemorate accepted notions of past events through material images.
