Toric Varieties: An Algebraic Geometric Journey from Physics to Chemistry
Mathematics Colloquium Series
  • Vehbi Paksoy, Nova Southeastern University
Description

A toric variety is a geometric object containing an algebraic torus as a Zariski open, dense subset. Besides its abstract and mathematical beauty, a toric variety is a subject used in various scientific theories. In this talk, Paksoy will provide intuitive descriptions of toric varieties from algebraic and combinatorial-geometric perspectives. He will also present various applications, from string theory to computational biology.
