About Lucy B Holman

The beauty of librarianship is that it is a discipline constantly in flux. In the 15 years I’ve been in this field, we have witnessed the explosion of the Internet and a vast array of online research resources. Today’s students have no memory of traditional libraries; we continually evolve and reshape our resources and services to keep pace with technology. Who knows where the professional will be in the next 15 years?
My doctoral work here at UB examined college students’ online search habits and their mental models of information retrieval. My continuing research looks at the intersection between user experience and information seeking behaviors.
Recent publications include several articles on information literacy and a comparison of Wikipedia to other online reference works. This article was named an Outstanding Article of the Year by Emerald Publishing. I have presented on millennials’ search behaviors at the Association of College and Research Libraries in Seattle, Wash., and the Maryland and Virginia Library Association conferences.
