About Dr. Twila Wingrove

Dr. Twila Wingrove is a developmental and legal psychologist at Appalachian State University with research interests in legal decision-making,perceptions of justice and minors' interactions with the legal system. She holds both the J.D. professional degree in law and a Ph.D. in developmental psychology. Her research has focused on foster care from the perspective of children, teacher-student sexual contact, jury decision-making in sexual assault cases, and other issues. She received National Science Foundation support in 2012 to investigate children’s reasoning regarding their procedural treatment by authority figures. She was co-editor of the book “Psychology, Law, and the Wellbeing of Children,” published by Oxford University Press in 2014.

In addition, Wingrove leads work in Appalachian’s Department of Psychology Aging, Growth, and Experience Labs (AGE Labs), where she and her students are studying perceptions of teacher-student relationships and jury decision-making in sexual assault cases.

In April 2018, she was named director of research data analysis in Appalachian’s Office of Research.
