Abstract or Description

Presentation given at the SoTL Commons Conference, Savannah, GA.

Multiple definitions of SoTL have been proposed and the international SoTL community has not settled on a consensus definition (McKinney, 2015). Instead, Huber and Hutchings (2005) have called for a “big tent” approach to defining and recognizing SoTL that is open to multiple forms of inquiry. Thus, the question becomes not, “What ‘counts’ as SoTL?,” but rather, “In what ways are we ‘counting’ (or not ‘counting’) SoTL?.” Informed by the broader international interdisciplinary literature on definitions and conceptualizations of SoTL, the presenter in this session will work with participants to identify multiple different ways to identify and recognize SoTL.
