Contribution to Book
Justice Fred H. Blume and the Translation of Justinian's Code
The Codex of Justinian (2016)
  • Timothy G. Kearley
Abstract
This contribution descibes what led Justice Blume to make an English translation of the Justinian Code in the 1920s and 30s, describes his work with Clyde Pharr on the latter's translation of the Theodosian Code, and explains why Pharr's plan to use Blume's translation as the basis for cooperative translation of the Justinian Code never came to fruition.
