  • Elected by ECU's English Department Graduate Committee as the Graduate Student Representative (1985)
  • Earned the mark "Passed with Distinction" on the Oral and Written Competency Exams for the M.A. in English (1986)
  • Led discussions for the Georgia Humanities Council's "The Voice of the Poet" program for the Statesboro Regional Library (1996)
  • Invited to co-present "The Art of the Harlem Renaissance" to Georgia Southern University's Humanitas Colloquium (1996)
  • Awarded the Medtronic Fellowship (2001-2002)
