Abstract

Reviews the book, Pathways to Spirituality: Connection, Wholeness, and Possibility for Therapist and Client by Bill O'Hanlon (see record 2006-08754-000). O'Hanlon offers a brief personal and professional reflection on how psychotherapists of all stripes can better integrate spiritual (but not necessarily religious) principles and wisdom into their psychotherapy clinical work. He writes clearly and directly in an engaging and at times humorous style. It is the type of book one could easily read while waiting for a flight in an airport, during a brief summer afternoon by the pool, or while your child is at a sports practice. It is conversational in tone, with numerous references to O'Hanlon's many years of clinical experience, as well as plenty of examples from popular movies, publications such as USA Today, and quotes from Oprah, Martin Luther King, and the Dalai Lama. O'Hanlon writes a brief volume with a total of 136 pages. O'Hanlon offers a pleasant read, with some very good suggestions about questions to ask clients in psychotherapy and thoughts about many creative techniques for psychotherapy intervention.
