Abstract

News reports this month have speculated that one of the first major initiatives from Pope Benedict XVI will restrict homosexuals from seminary training and thus ordination as Roman Catholic priests. The most recent accounts have claimed that homosexual men must be celibate for three years prior to entering the seminary. My immediate question is: Will this three-year celibacy rule also apply to heterosexual men? I sure hope that all applicants to the seminary, regardless of sexual orientation, will be treated equally and fairly.
