Abstract

The article presents the author's views regarding the misconceptions and common errors about the clergy sexual abuse issue in the Catholic Church. It highlights some of these myths including Catholic priests are much more likely to be child abusers than other men, the issue is due to celibacy, and Catholic clergy sex offenders are pedophiles. It is critical on the prevalence of these fallacies and argues the importance of being informed by empirical data, logic and reason rather than emotion.
