About Thomas Hansen, MD, FAAFP, MBA

Thomas J Hansen, MD, MBA, FAAFP  is originally from Davenport, Iowa. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree and his Master of Business Administration from Creighton University’s School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. His other degrees include a Master of Science degree in Patient Safety and Quality Improvement from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois; a Master of Divinity degree from Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts; and a Bachelor of Science degree in philosophy and letters from St. Louis University. After completing his residency in family medicine at Creighton University, Dr. Hansen joined the faculty in the Department of Family Medicine at Creighton and, after two years, served as program director from 2005 to 2010. In 2010, Dr. Hansen was appointed Associate Dean of Medical Education, where he oversaw a successful LCME accreditation visit and the development of a clinical curriculum at Creighton’s regional campus at St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. In 2013, Dr. Hansen moved to Chicago to assume the role of Chief Academic Officer for Advocate Health Care, based in Downers Grove. In 2018, Dr. Hansen was named System Vice President Chief Academic Officer for Advocate Aurora Health, while remaining the designated institutional official for the Advocate Sponsored Residency Programs and Fellowships. In this role he oversees medical education and library services for the Advocate Aurora Health System. Dr. Hansen is currently serving as a member of the Executive Committee of the ACGME Board of Directors.
