About R. Thomas Blackburn

Professor Blackburn received his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt Law School and his LL.M. from Harvard Law School.

He focuses his teaching and research on tax and business-related topics. While practicing law as a partner in a Louisville law firm, Professor Blackburn lectured as an adjunct professor at the School of Law from 1971 to 1976. He joined the faculty full time in 1976 and became a full tenured Professor of Law in 1979.

He served the Law School as Associate Dean from 1989 to 1991, from 1994 to 1995, and from 2008 to 2010.

Professor Blackburn is admitted to practice before all Federal courts in Kentucky, in all state courts in Kentucky, and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Kentucky and Tennessee (no longer active).
