About Theodore J. Karamanski

I am a public historian working at Loyola University Chicago. My community service and client sponsored research has focused on American Midwestern history, environmental policy, and American Indian Treaty rights. I also have an active research program in the history of the American Civil War and North American frontier expansion, including that of Canada. In the course of combining public history projects and an academic career I have published seven books, numerous technical reports, and scores of journal articles. Since 1980 my career as an educator has focused on preparing graduate students for careers in public history. I founded and currently direct the Loyola University Public History Program.
