Dr. Teri Thompson's primary research interests focus upon health communication and gender and communication. For the last few years, she has been examining messages that impact organ donation preferences. However, other areas of interest have included ethics in health communication and coping with bereavement. Her research has been published in numerous scholarly journals, such as Human Communication Research, Public Opinion Quarterly, Journal of Applied Communication Research, and Social Science and Medicine. However, she has also been more widely read through publications in sources like The Wall Street Journal and Glamour, as well as having her work mentioned on the Tonight Show.

The impact of Teri's scholarship in our discipline would be hard to overstate. In addition to eight books and monographs and approximately 70 scholarly articles and chapters, she has also served as editor of Health Communication for over 20 years. She has been honored by the National Communication Association for her contributions to the field of health communication. Teri has also contributed to UD with outstanding teaching and service. She has directed over 20 master's theses, and has served since 2002 in the Women's Center Mentoring Program Working Group. In 2002 she was recognized with UD's highest award in teaching, the Alumni Award in Teaching.
