Written Composition - It's More Than Handwriting. Unlocking the Struggles, Finding the Supports
Texas Occupational Therapy Annual Conference (2018)

Abstract
Many students who receive special education services struggle with writing. It is often assumed that this is due to fine motor and or visual perceptual deficits. The supports and accommodations put in place may help, but often fall short. The full and individual evaluation (FIE) has wonderful information if you understand how to interpret the seven cognitive processes, or G factors, and the impact they have on the task of written composition. Considering these G factors along with the information gleaned from a thorough occupational evaluation can clarify the specific accommodations and meaningful supports a student needs to move forward. Thus saving the student, teacher, and therapist frustration and time.
