Abstract
Since the inception of higher education, college students have engaged in activism to bring about change on their campuses. In this chapter, we review identity-based student activism scholarship, which centers the needs of activists with minoritized identities, published from 2000 to 2020. We performed a content analysis to examine the subject matter, methodologies, and topic, group, or issue of this scholarship, which resulted in addressing five areas in this chapter: the history of identity-based student activism, student experiences, methods and tactics of activists, institutional responses and administration, and scholar-activism and pedagogy. We also provide recommendations and implications for researchers studying student activism.
