Presentation
The Death of the Myth of the Blues Savant
The Pop Conference (2019)
  • T. DeWayne Moore, Prairie View A&M University
Abstract
This presentation demonstrates that 1920s talent scout H.C. Speir did not facilitate the recordings of Mississippi blues artists during the 1920s. The failure of blues scholars to conduct corroborating research and compare it to the oral histories conducted by Gayle Dean Wardlow has led to grievous mistakes in the historical record.
