About Taylor Joy Mitchell

Taylor Joy Mitchell's scholarship of teaching and learning focuses on narrative inclusion into engineering curriculum and composition studies, especially strategies to increase critical thinking, improve student engagement in the writing process, and determine best practices for using AI to support learning. In addition to her SOTL work, Dr. Mitchell explores the inextricable relationships between sexuality, gender, and race in popular media. She has published on popular culture icons such as Hugh Hefner, Sally Jenkins, Colin Kaepernick, and Billie Holiday. Her teaching focuses on postmodern and contemporary American literature; teaching at a predominantly STEM institution, Dr. Mitchell's interdisciplinary courses showcase the connections between science and the humanities. For instance, her honors seminars are on the stories of science, cold war culture, and eco-literature. As the advisor for organizations like Project H.A.R.T. (Hydroponic and Aquaponic Research Technologies) and ERAU's Art Club, Dr. Mitchell enjoys mentoring undergraduates.
