About Tamara Van Hooren

Dr. Tamara Van Hooren is a General Academic Pediatrician at the Children's Hospital (LHSC) who specializes in child protection and the care of maltreated youth. She is also the Director of Pediatric Postgraduate Training, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Her academic interests predominately focus in the area of medical education, with particular attention to postgraduate medical education.


Dr. Van Hooren joined the Children's Hospital in October of 2011. She completed her BSc Biology at the Western University in 2001, and MD at the University of Ottawa in 2005. Dr. Van Hooren remained in Ottawa to complete her paediatric residency training at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. She completed her FRCPC in 2009.

Since graduation, Dr. Van Hooren has worked to develop a special interest in the area of child protection. She joins us with experience in the care of maltreated youth through the London and Middlesex Children's Aid Society. In addition to her position as consulting General Academic Paediatrician, she will be joining the Child Protection Team at the CH.
