Practical Aspects of Availability and Reliability Management in a Large Open Pit Mine
International Conference on Reliability, Production, and Control in Coal Mines
  • Tad S. Golosinski, Missouri University of Science and Technology
Abstract

The large El Cerrejon coal open pit in north east Columbia has been developed over the last decade in a remote, entirely new mining area with hitherto unskilled inhabitants. Now over 200 pieces of heavy equipment operate with high reliability and availability due to successful theoretical training and skill improvement programs tuned to the specific reliability needs of the worksite and environment. The process of continuous improvement adopted promises further competitive advantages of the project.
