Abstract

A new method for determining fatigue in a rope under service conditions is described. The method is based on the ultrasonic fatigue testing of wire samples taken from the rope. The investigations described include the determination of the interdependence between the degree of fatigue of the rope and the changes of the life of the samples investigated, as well as the attenuation of ultrasonic vibrations. This interdependence serves as a basis for determining fatigue in a working rope.
