    6. For some time now I have utilized a methodology for my paintings which involves discreet stages of production. I begin by painting un-stretched boards, which when dry, are cut into smaller rectilinear components with a table saw and a guillotine. I then assemble these components into new configurations, and may continue to apply paint to them. I find this working procedure affords me opportunities to combine gestural and automatic mark making, with more delayed editorial considerations, resulting in works which vary in their emphasis between surface, and illusion. The works tend to embody for me subjective recollections, and a sense of place which I may be familiar with, alongside their essentially Formal properties. I also have an interest how this subject matter can be utilised through the conventions of metal casting, printmaking and video. 1
