About Suzanne Sorel
I am Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Music Therapy at Molloy University, where I have been teaching for over 30 years. I practiced clinically as a senior music therapist and supervisor for 13 years at the Nordoff-Robbins Center for Music Therapy at New York University achieving Level III Certification (trainer status) in the approach. During my music therapy career, I have worked with a variety of client groups including autistic children and adults, people with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, speech and language delays, and psychiatric disorders. I developed the Nordoff-Robbins training at Molloy and oversee the training at our on campus clinic,The Rebecca Center for Music Therapy. I completed undergraduate music therapy training at State University of New York at New Paltz and received music therapy master’s and doctoral degrees from New York University. I have been an invited lecturer at regional, national, and international conferences and workshops sharing my areas of study and interest: Clinical improvisation and developing humanistic music-centered treatment plans that are evidence-based. I am the author of Becoming a Music-Centered Therapist (Barcelona, 2022), as well as several chapters in music therapy textbooks. I have also composed and published seven musical compositions used in music education and therapy.
