About Susan Shapiro

Susan Shapiro is Associate Professor of Judaic & Near Eastern Studies and Director of the Religious Studies Program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has also taught at Columbia University in the Department of Religion (1993-2001), at the Hebrew University's Rothberg School (1992-1993), the University of Delaware (1991-1992), and at Syracuse University (1984-1991). She received her Ph.D. in 1983 from the University of Chicago in the Committee on the Analysis of Ideas and the Study of Methods.
Professor Shapiro is the author of Recovering the Sacred: Ethics, Hermeneutics and Theology after the Holocaust (forthcoming). Her articles and reviews have appeared in Judaism, Journal of the American Academy of Religion, Religious Studies Review, Semeia, Concilium, Harvard Divinity Bulletin, among many other journals and collected volumes.
