Abstract

Recently, I heard a paper presented at the Annual Meeting of Academy of Management that was titled "The Paradox of Workplace Anger: How Women Can Level the Playing Field." I do not believe it is published yet, but hopefully it will be soon. Researchers Aitong Li and Avina Gupta discussed one of the significant double-standards in the workplace, which is that male leaders are often rewarded for expressing anger while female leaders are punished. Their goal was to figure out whether an existing employee-manager relationship would act to buffer for negative characterizations when female leaders express anger.
