Multilevel analysis of firm, industry and home country effects on firm performance
Journal of Transnational Management (2022)

Abstract
Literature suggests that firm effect dominates over industry and country effects, as far as firm performance is concerned. However, these effects have invariably been operationalized as dummy variables or random effects only. A complete analysis must include both fixed and random effects, and specific firm, industry and country characteristics. This study analyzed both fixed and random effects on firm performance using a sample consisting of sixty three countries and twenty four industries and found that industry and home country fixed effects are as strong as firm fixed effects.
