Tuesday, June 13, 2023 » A discussion led by panelist hristina Jenkins, Dallas, TX and Stewart E Sterk, Cardozo School of Law Yeshiva University, New York, NY. » Moderated Shelby D Green, Elisabeth Haub School of Law, Pace University, White Plains, NY » Deed fraud, a form of property title theft, occurs in many forms, from fraudsters executing and recording forged deeds to rascals inducing owners to transfer title on false promises. Title insurers are often duped, and the fraudsters are sometimes shielded from discovery under cover of a limited liability company. The panelists will discuss the many types of deed fraud occurring, the hurdles to discovering and undoing the fraud and some legislative initiatives aimed at this harmful practice.
