About Steven Murphy, MD

As a family physician, my career is focused on improving the health of the community through individual encounters and improved systems of care. As a medical student on a third year rotation the Walker’s Point Clinic welcomed me as they provided health care with dignity and compassion to people who would not otherwise have access to care. I continued my training in a public hospital in Los Angeles. Since then, I have worked in community and free clinics and in 2016 came full circle as the medical director of Advocate Aurora’s Walker Point Community Clinic. In medicine, I prioritize patient safety and patient centered care. In the workplace, I strive to improve collaboration amongst all members of the healthcare team. As a professional, I am committed to teaching and mentoring students and residents. The first clinic that hired me was built on the epicenter of the 1992 LA riot & uprising. One of the founders of that clinic observed that in places where there has been historic injustice, providing primary care can be an act of historic mercy. I love family medicine because it can be collaborative, empathic and accepting.
