About Stephen L. Harp

Steve Harp has BA and MA degrees in French and History, and a PhD in European history from Indiana University. Though his home base is in History (CAS 204c), he is professor of history and professor of French, teaching courses and doing research in French and European history. He is the author of books on the history of primary schooling and nation building in Alsace-Lorraine, Michelin and cultural identity in modern France, and nudism and European tourism in twentieth-century France. He is now at work on a study of the post-World War II cultural reinvention of Alsace as "European"--and not just French, German, and/or Alsatian. He encourages every student he meets to study abroad in a non-English-speaking country.
