An introduction to life cycle assessment with hands-on experiments for biodiesel production and use

Abstract
We developed a hands-on project to teach life cycle assessment in the first year.
Students compare impact of biodiesel from new and waste oil to fossil diesel.
Students conduct experiments to gather data for inventory assessment.
Cradle-to-grave life cycle analysis is performed.
Students show significant gain in knowledge related to life cycle assessment.
