Associate Professor Stephan Schnierer MSc(Qld)
Stephan is in the School of Environment, Science and Engineering. He has extensive knowledge and experience in the areas Indigenous Environmental Management, Indigenous Resource Rights, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, Intellectual Property Rights, International and National Environmental Policy . Stephan is a member of several governmental advisory committees including the National Marine Mammals Advisory Committee, the Indigenous Reference Group (Fisheries Research Development Corporation) the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authorities Ecosystems Advisory Committee and the GBRMPA Indigenous Reef Advisory Committee, the NSW Aboriginal Fishing Advisory Council, the NSW Seafood Industries Advisory Council and the NSW Fisheries Research Advisory Body. He was also recently appointed to the Fisheries Council of South Australia. Stephan previously chaired the NSW Indigenous Fisheries Advisory Committee and advises the NSW Department of Aboriginal Affairs and the NSW Aboriginal Land Council on a range of environmental issues. Stephan is also a adviser to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity Secretariat and he is the member of a number of international expert panels relating to Indigenous rights in biodiversity. Stephan’s is currently undertaking research on Indigenous cultural fishing in NSW funded by Fisheries Research Development Corporation.
