Our Vision
This WordPress site is designed to be used to explore and share resources for teaching intersectionality and inclusiveness. We envision this blog to serve new and experienced faculty who want to expand the coverage of intersectionality and inclusiveness in their classrooms, departments, and universities.
Our hope is to provide resources and expert guidance to the discipline. Initially, we have created the following categories of information for the blog.
About Us
This resource was created by the “How Can We Make Political Science Education More Intersectional?” Team participants in the 2018 Diversity & Inclusion Hackathon sponsored by the APSA Presidential Task Force on Women’s Advancement held at the American Political Science Association Annual Meeting in Boston, MA. The day-long event was chaired by Mala Htun and Alvin B. Tillery, Jr. At the hackathon, teams developed strategies to address key challenges facing the profession, build partnerships, and plans to move forward.
The end goal of this team was to develop a set of ideas or materials that will help faculty incorporate intersectionality and inclusiveness in their classes. The product(s) developed ranged from basic activities on how best to introduce concepts of identity or categories of difference in the classroom to the creation of assignments that critically analyze the processes and systems that create and reinforce difference.
We acknowledge the vision and spirited leadership of APSA President, Kathleen Thelen, the Hackathon Chairs: Mala Htun and Alvin B. Tillery, Jr., and the dedicated Team Leaders: Amy Atchison and Sherri Wallace. We extend a big “Thank You” to ALL Team members for the end product and making this event a success!
