Leading through a Pandemic: Lessons Learned from the Cleveland Teaching Collaborative
English Leadership Quarterly (2020)
  • Shelley E Rose, Cleveland State University
Abstract
In this article, the authors introduce a teaching collaborative organized and launched in the face of the rapid shift to remote teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The collaborative, a network of educators in Cleveland teaching grade 6 through graduate school, has a central website with case studies written by over 20 educators about their experiences with this shift to remote teaching and learning.
The article includes lessons from two university faculty who created the collaborative, reviewed the case studies, and facilitated reflective discussions with the authors; reflects on how the decisions, choices, and strategies shared by teachers identify what it means to lead during this time; shares links to the WordPress site used by teachers in the Cleveland area and around the globe as motivation, inspiration, and concrete ideas; and introduces readers to a live referatory that will connect readers to a curated list of resources that would be helpful for remote or hybrid teaching.
