Abstract
Academic libraries often struggle with the perception of being seen as inaccessible, closed-off, or restricted - particularly by members of the community not affiliated with the university. This poster describes a collaborative initiative born out of a desire to engage with potential library users beyond the university community. Our initiative included arts-based programming and collaborations with the University Musical Society, the public library, Special Collections, and the university Latinx student organization. Our programming resulted in increased engagement with our collections, exhibits and spaces by members of the public and an opportunity to be seen as a welcoming public space.
