About Sharon Clerke

Sharon Clerke is a Research Fellow in the Program Evaluation research program at the Australian Council for Educational Research in Melbourne.
Sharon worked at senior levels in the education sector for 30 years, teaching and working closely with secondary schools, parents and community members on a wide range of programs designed to improve educational outcomes for students and schools.
Sharon began her career as an English teacher and has spent many years in leadership positions in secondary schools in Melbourne, heading curriculum initiatives, providing professional development for teachers, and developing programs aimed at improving literacy outcomes. From 2008 to 2009 she held the position of Head of English in a private girls’ school in outer London, which provided an invaluable opportunity to investigate school programs and settings in the UK and Europe.
From 2010-2014 Sharon headed ACER’s significant contribution to Schools First, which was a national awards program which recognised excellence in school-community partnerships. The program sought to provide school communities with the skills to build robust and sustainable partnerships and programs. ACER was responsible for the evidence base that underpinned the program and developed the criteria for excellence. Sharon led a team of judges who assessed over 3 500 applications from schools during the four years of the project. To ensure that schools had every chance of submitting a successful application, Sharon travelled to schools around Australia delivering workshops.
Sharon actively contributes to the building of capacity in school communities, disseminating information to improve knowledge and skills around data collection and analysis, program evaluation and strategies for creating genuinely collaborative and robust partnerships. She is an experienced researcher and presenter.
