Abstract

With the aging of the baby boomers and number of older adults increasing, one of the pathologies associated with aging is dementia. Dementia is a group of diseases that cause decline in a person's cognitive abilities and executive functioning, resulting in loss of ability to think, reason, and manage life. Increasing numbers of strength and conditioning professionals will be working with older adults who have some form of dementia within their careers. To effectively work with these aging adults with dementia, professionals must understand the disease process, communication challenges that are associated with dementia, and the impact of exercise.
