About Shari Rone-Adams

Dr. Rone-Adams received her Physical Therapy Degree at University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL and her MHSA and DBA degrees from Nova Southeastern University. She also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from Brunel University, Uxbridge, UK.

Recognitions & Certifications
Dr. Rone-Adams is a member of the Alpha Eta National Honor Society, Nu Sigma Upsilon Chapter.  She has also completed the APTA’s Clinical Instructional Education and Credentialing Program and is a Credentialed Clinical Instructor.

Teaching
Entry Level Program Courses: PHT 6710 – Clinical Skills, PHT 6930 – Wrap Up (curriculum review course leader)
Additionally, Dr. Rone-Adams teaches in the PhD and TDPT Programs: PHT 7030 - Health Policy, PHT 7300 – Consulting Skills, PHT 7855 - Geriatric Practice

Dr. Rone-Adams also teaches courses in the Bachelors of Health Science Program and the Masters of Public Health Program.
Dr. Rone-Adams is a strong supporter of interdisciplinary training and development. The program offers multiple interdisciplinary learning opportunities throughout the program and these opportunities are incorporating interdisciplinary simulation training in conjunction with various disciplines.

Scholarly Activities and Interests
Dr.  Rone-Adams educational research interests focus on student outcomes and clinical education. Clinical research interests include geriatric rehabilitation, patient outcomes and relationship enrichment training to Improve quality of life.  Dr. Rone-Adams was a co-investigator on a grant entitled: “The Use of a Patient-Centered Relationship Enrichment Training Program to improve Quality of Life for Caregivers and Stroke Survivors” where a model was used to help survivors and caregivers work through lifestyle transformation, challenges and changes within the context of often turbulent relationships, following a stroke. Student outcomes research has included co-investigation and grants to study “Employer, Physical Therapy Faculty and Clinical Instructors Expectations of the New DPT Graduates in the Outpatient and Acute Care Settings” and “Evidence-based Practice In and Out of Academia – Student’s Knowledge, Attitudes, and Beliefs vs. What is Experienced in the Clinic”.  Additional, Dr. Rone-Adams was a co-principle investigator on a grant from APTA for a project titled: “Investigation of a Hybrid Model of Physical Therapist Professional Clinical Education”.

Dr. Rone-Adams is an editor for the Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice and the 2007 Reviewer of the Year. She has several peer reviewed publications in addition to a long list of peer reviewed presentations on both a national and international level, as well as text book chapters.  

Areas of Practice
Dr. Rone-Adams’ primary practice background is in the area of geriatric physical therapy where she worked in a variety of settings including Rehabilitation, Skilled Nursing, Outpatient and Acute Care. She has worked in various roles in the clinical setting including staff PT, Clinical Education Coordinator, Director of Rehabilitation, and Area Administrator.

Professional Activity Summary
Dr. Rone-Adams has been is an APTA member since 1983 and is a current member of the Geriatric and Education sections.  Her academic career incorporates both experience in here in the US as well as international experience in the UK and Republic of Ireland.  During this international experience she has held both teaching and administrative positions including Physiotherapy Lecturer, Research Coordinator, Director of Student Clinic, MSc Online Physiotherapy Program Leader. Dr. Rone-Adams returned to NSU in 2011 after 7 years overseas.
