About Shannon Waltrip-Sequeira

My teaching philosophy is: The best organizational theory is intensely practical. I put every communication and pedagogical theory and principle I have learned personally, academically, and professionally into practice. I live what I teach; I synthesize academic knowledge with collegiate problems and solutions. I encourage students to ask questions and to question answers. I love my subject, I love teaching, and I love working with people. I’m experienced in the Communication field, and I’ve excelled in the academic and corporate worlds. I know the thread that weaves these two contexts together is that collegiality among instructors, students, and colleagues is collaboration, collaborating to get the job done and to do it very well. I bring my skills, education, background, experience, and interests to San Jose State University as I further my theoretical knowledge into translate this into practice. My expertise and my professional philosophy are to enhance and enrich the human experience and condition through building, maintaining, and sustaining relationships. Education is what I’ve always wanted to do and continue doing. I enjoy working with students and building a strong, collaborative working relationship with them. I am happy to contribute my knowledge to San Jose State University, and I enjoy doing what I do—teaching and engaging students—as well as representing SJSU and delivering quality education to its students.
