MISDOOM 2022: 4th Multidisciplinary International Symposium on Disinformation in Open Online Media (2022)

Abstract
As disinformation and other falsehoods increasingly spread across the media landscape, many observers have pointed to media literacy as one promising way to help individuals better navigate the media environment. Accordingly, media literacy classes and programs are emerging across higher education. What do these emerging programs look like and how should educators approach media literacy as they develop new programs? This presentation aims to address these questions by examining a handful of existing programs, by detailing the process of creating a new Certificate in Digital Media Literacy, and by proposing a set of best practices regarding content and pedagogy that can help individuals resist and avoid disinformation and misinformation of all kinds.
