Abstract
The Survivors Project is a multimodal therapeutic program that addresses the unique attributes and treatment needs of adolescents in residential treatment who have suffered from child sexual abuse. The need for socialized treatment arose from clinical observation that many of its adolescents being referred to our residential treatment center had reported histories of childhood trauma accompanied by symptomatic behaviors and intrapsychic conflicts commonly seen in sexually abused youth. The Survivors Project utilizes an integrated therapeutic approach and includes structured group psychotherapy, movement therapy, and psychoeducational stress management training group. This program was designed to facilitate the understanding and working through of powerful post-traumatic sequelae of child sexual abuse through emotional, cognitive and sensory experiences. This article contains an in-depth examination of clinical case material related to verbal and nonverbal patterns of group process behavior, observed in the The Survivors Project groups, as it specifically relates to survivors issues.
