Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of encapsulated fish oil supplementation in the diet of Alpine goats on milk yield and composition.  Contradictory results have been reported in the response of dairy goats to fish oil supplementation in the diet.  A total of 10 Alpine goats were selected from the dairy herd of the International Goat Research Center at Prairie View A&M University.  The animals were divided into two groups (5 animals/group), and the control group received the basal diet without supplementation of fish oil, whereas the experimental group received the basal diet with 0.25% fish oil (1.14 g/Kg concentrate).  The total feeding duration of this experiment was 70 days. The first 14 days the same basal diet was given to all animals as the adaptation period.  Milk samples were collected (at days 14, 28, 42, and 56), andanalyzed for chemical composition using the Lacti Check milk analyzer.  The data were analyzed using the PROC MIXED model of SAS and the differences between treatments were estimated by the least square means at 0.05% level.  The inclusion of encapsulated fish oil in the goat diet did not show any effect (P > 0.05) on the body weights of goats, and percentages of milk fat, protein, SNF and TS when compared with the control group.  In this study, the supplementation of goat diet with the low level of encapsulated fish oil had no significant impact on milk yield and milk composition.
