Abstract
What would anybody with the slightest interest in Native American history and culture not give to have visited an Omaha village with Joseph La Fleche, learned to pain from Karl Bodmer, and spent evenings with Edwin Denig? Rudolph Kurz did all of this, worked in the fur trade on the Missouri River, painted what he saw, and, most importantly, left a journal of his observations, travels, and insights. It is this journal that now is available again, in an edited and abridged version fro the University of Oklahoma Press. The full English version of the journal was published as Bulletin 115 of the Bureau fo American Ethnology in 1937 and had then been reprinted twice as facsimile editions, but now is out of print.
