Who Do You Say That I Am? Christology and Identity in the United Church of Christ
(2006)
  • Scott R. Paeth, DePaul University
Abstract
"Our goal is not to interpret [Jesus Christ] for the church, but simply to offer a set of perspectives out of the multitude available within the UCC. Our desire is to foster a conversation on the centrality of Jesus to our denomination, not to insist that there is only one proper perspective. To be a Christian is to stake ones life in the identity of Jesus Christ, to radically trust that, in Christ, we have come into an encounter with God. The identity of Jesus Christ is a multifaceted reality that frustrates and defeats our attempts to reduce it to simple slogans."
