Abstract

This paper investigates effects that result from using different parametrizations on a particular variational subdivision scheme. The parametrizations we are considering are chordal and centripetal, and the subdivision scheme is interpolatory. It is shown that, for the chordal parametrization, the intermediate (new) points may coalesce with the interpolated (old) points (hence knots coalesce), but for the centripetal parametrization with exponent in the range 0
