Abstract
Because of the negative health consequences of tobacco use and growing evidence of the health risks associated with environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), restrictive smoking policies have become widespread among many organizations and environments. The Commander Naval Air Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet established a no-smoking environment within all U.S. Atlantic Fleet facilities, including aircraft carriers. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of a no-smoking policy about USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT on the crew's smoking behavior and exposure to ETS, as well as crew attitudes regarding smoking policy.
