Abstract
Navy vessels have long passed the word that "the smoking lamp is out" to protect the health and safety of ship and crew. This call was primarily made because of the risk from exposed flame and smoke during evolutions such as refueling. Similarly, smoking has routinely been prohibited on various parts of ships due risk of fire, such as the flight deck and hangar deck...As the medical hazards associated with tobacco have become more apparent, the elimination of smoking in the Navy was entertained.
