About Scott Fausti

Prof. Scott W. Fausti began working in the area of livestock economics in 1992, focusing research primarily on price analysis, price discovery, and risk in livestock markets.  Among 100+ referred and non-referred articles, Dr. Fausti has published refereed scientific papers in several internationally-recognized agricultural economics journals, including Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics, Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, and the American Journal of Agricultural Economics. His interdisciplinary research has been published in the Journal of Animal Science, Journal of Crop Protection, Environmental Entomology, Journal of Applied Entomology, and Science (Science Advances).

Dr. Fausti has been involved in over three million dollars in competitively awarded, grant-funded projects.  Dr. Fausti previously served as the president of the Missouri Valley Economics Association, and is currently the editorial board chair of that organization.  He also serves on the executive board of the Western Agricultural Economics Association.  For more than twenty years, he has served as a committee member for two U.S. Department of Agriculture regional projects.  Current independent research projects include: a) Investigating competitive issues facing South Dakota feedlot operations; and b) Identifying educational curriculum and training requirements for future employees in the precision agriculture retail industry. Additional service includes adjudicating National Science Foundation grant panel reviews and serving as an outside reviewer for U.S. Department of Agriculture research grant programs.

Dr. Fausti earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1991.  He joined the Department of Economics at South Dakota State University in 1991, was promoted to full professor in 2000, and retired in May 2016. The Economics Department at South Dakota University nominated him for emeritus professor.  Dr. Fausti held a South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station appointment from 1995-2016. In August 2016, Dr. Fausti joined the College of Business at California State University Monterey Bay as an associate professor of agribusiness.
